We’ve had the privilege to Interview one of the most talented riders out there, Joel Bondu, a 23 year old from Montreal, Canada. His riding style could be described as sharp and delicate. Joel is currently a full time performer at Cirque Du Soleil. He is also know for being a former member of Total BMX Bike Co’s team in Fise Montpellier 2015 (see video below). However, he currently rides for Collective bike co. His incredible skills and technique makes him a rising star in the world of BMX. It will be interesting to follow this young man’s career and see how far he gets in life.

How long have you been riding BMX for? and what got you started?

I’ve been riding BMX for 14 years. l was a regular kid with too much energy, who thought FMX was cool but too expensive. I eventually came across BMX and I thought it was just as cool.

What is your favorite place to ride?

I’ll give you my top 3 places cause it’s to difficult to choose. To train BMX, learn tricks, and ride big ramps, I would definitely choose the kitchen or Corby. To have a good time and meet people, then ocean beach is definitely a fun place to be!

What’s the first trick that you’ve learned?

One foot and one hander.

What’s the most difficult trick that you’ve learned?

l’m not really sure! I’ll say triple tailwhip and barspin air was definitely difficult and scary. I also have been learning bit of flatland with the help of my friend at work and it’s been really interesting and fun to learn. Really difficult too.

Next trick to learn?

The list is long but l’d love to do a 1080 on dirt or wood ramp soon.

What is the most memorable moment you have so far from riding?

I believe Fise Montpellier 2015. I got to ride for Total BMX in the same year, and this in it itself was my biggest dream. It was just too crazy to have a dinner with the team and also being parts of the team video.

What’s the next big thing that you will be doing in the near future?

I definitely want to make more cool BMX videos and make a comeback to the international BMX events and Fise next year. I haven’t been able to ride as much as l use to, but l still feel great on the bike.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start biking?

If you start riding get to know how to handle the bike, flow around the bowl, practice bunny up, fakie and other basics tricks. Then from there start trying the tricks you feel confident trying but the key is to go step by step. It’s safer that way. BMX is also a really fun sport that will allow you to hang out with your friends, meet new people, and ride.

What’s your ultimate goal in life?

I never thought l’ll be able to accomplish so much riding BMX. I already achieved some of my old dreams. Now my ultimate goal is to keep learning new tricks and keep pushing. However, it’s not always easy considering that I am a full time performer Cirque Du Soleil.

Joel, thank you for taking part of this interview and we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Thank you guys!
